The small claims page is another official record source because small claims cases are District Court civil records with simpler procedure. The Shawnee County Small Claims page explains that collection is not automatic even after judgment.
A small claims docket can show judgment, appeal, or collection steps, but the clerk's copy process is still the route for formal copies of pleadings, orders, and other court documents.
Shawnee County Court Records Access
Kansas access starts with the Kansas Open Records Act. K.S.A. 45-216 states the public policy favoring inspection of public records unless another law closes them. K.S.A. 45-218 sets the request, inspection, refusal, and fee framework. The KORA form also requires a certification under K.S.A. 45-230 that name and address lists will not be used for sales.
KORA does not make all court-related material open. The court may separate open and closed material, charge for copies and staff time, and deny access where a statute, court rule, or order restricts a file. A requester should describe the record with names, dates, case numbers, titles, and the court holding the record. Broad requests cost more and are less likely to be filled quickly.

The municipal split matters. Topeka Municipal Court handles city ordinance violations, traffic infractions, and misdemeanor ordinance cases. A city police ticket or city ordinance case is not the same as a Shawnee County District Court case, even when the person, incident, or charge looks similar.
